How to Embroider on Towels Without Losing Quality

Sarah Jenkins 2025-10-18

The Battle Against the Loops

Terry cloth towels are difficult because the fabric pile (loops) wants to poke through your embroidery, making text unreadable.

The Solution: Water Soluble Topping

Always use a layer of water-soluble stabilizer (Solvy) on top. This holds the loops down while the needle does its work.

The Pro Tip: Knockdown Stitches

For plush towels, create a base layer of stitching called a "Knockdown Stitch" or "Nap Tack".

This is a light fill stitch (often in the same color as the towel) that mats down the loops in the shape of your design BEFORE the main design is stitched. This creates a smooth foundation for your text or logo to sit on, ensuring crisp edges.
